Construction to Begin on New IK8 Research Building at Fuji Research Park

Tokyo, Japan, February 28, 2014---Kyowa Hakko Kirin Co., Ltd. (Tokyo: 4151, President and CEO: Nobuo Hanai, "Kyowa Hakko Kirin") will start construction of the new research building," IK8" at Fuji Research Park (Nagaizumi-cho, Suntou-gun, Shizuoka) in March 2014.

The construction of the IK8 building is part of Kyowa Hakko Kirin's strategy to transfer the Chemical Process Research and Development Laboratories (Sakai city, Osaka) to Fuji Research Park. The IK8 building will integrate the industrialization research conducted at the Chemical Process Research and Development Laboratories with the drug discovery chemical research function at Fuji Research Park. The IK8 building will be equipped with laboratories optimized for the synthetic processes used in commercial operations and general synthetic chemistry needed for R&D into synthetic pharmaceuticals. The goal is to construct research facilities that are safe and environmentally friendly.

With the construction of the IK8 building, Kyowa Hakko Kirin aims to accelerate R&D into synthetic pharmaceuticals, further improve the company's manufacturing technologies for synthetic pharmaceuticals, and enable safe and stable manufacturing, in order to continue supplying the market with high-quality pharmaceuticals.
