Launch of the Web Comic "The Story of Basic Immunology"

Tokyo, Japan, December 18th, 2015 --- Kyowa Hakko Kirin Co., Ltd., (Tokyo 4151, CEO: Nobuo Hanai, "Kyowa Hakko Kirin") announced that it has launched a new web comic entitled "The Story of Basic Immunology" on its global website.

The web comic has been developed through a collaboration with the comic artist Ryo Koshino and the literary agency Cork Inc. (Tokyo, CEO: Yohei Sadoshima) under the editorial supervision of Leave a Nest Co., Ltd (Tokyo, President CEO: Yukihiro Maru). This comic uses the story of a researcher, Hajime Ushijima, to introduce how the human immune system works and the role of antibodies.

"Audiences can access all the episodes of this comic easily on their PC or smartphone," said Shigeru Morotomi, Executive Officer and Director of the Corporate Communications Department. "We hope that "The Story of Basic Immunology" will help readers to understand the immunology system, including therapeutic antibodies, and discover how science can be fun."

About Ryo Koshino
Ryo Koshino was born in September 1967 in Sanjo City, Niigata Prefecture. His comic "N's Aoi (Nurse Aoi)" depicted issues in modern medicine and the struggles of a nurse. The comic became a huge success when it launched in 2004. It was serialized for over six years and was subsequently made into a TV drama series in 2006. His other major works include "Machi Isha* Jumbo!!" (Kodansha) and "Dr. Ashura" (Nihon Bungeisha). Currently he is writing "Ginko Shogai Tantosha** Haruo TAKENAKA" for the magazine "Shukan Gendai" (Shueisha).
