Diversity of antibodies
Antibodies have diversity to respond to a variety of antigens.
Diversity is determined by the variable region of an antibody.
the variable region and constant region of antibodies are produced according to genetic information. The diversity of antibody is determined by the following mechanism of gene rearrangement.
The genes in the heavy chain variable region of antibody are divided into the VH gene regions, DH gene regions and JH gene regions. These three gene regions are produced by selecting one type from multiple gene fragments. The gene in the light chain variable region of antibodies are divided into the VL gene region and the JL gene region.
In this way a variety of antibodies are produced by gene fragments from the heavy chain VH, DH, JH and the light chain VL, JL.
